Over the weekend a friend of mine, recently returned from Africa, told me the best way to cure acne and heal facial sores was to kiss a Giraffe. Everyone in our group cringed.

I did some research & discovered, much to my amusement, Giraffe saliva has important antibacterial and healing qualities, and there is serious research being undertaken into the properties of griaffe mucus.

Of course, Avocado oil is the other natural source of antibacterial and healing properties for skin. Which one is better for you?

Over the weekend a friend of mine, recently returned from Africa, told me the best way to cure acne and heal facial sores was to kiss a giraffe. Everyone in our group cringed.

I was even more concerned when he described the kiss in detail and let me know kissing a Giraffe was quite pleasant. I turned to look at his wife and she gave me that all knowing look. She did admit, however, he had actually kissed a giraffe and what he was saying was, in fact, true.

I did some research into this subject and discovered, much to my amusement, giraffe saliva actually has serious antibacterial qualities to combat the thorns giraffes encounter every day on a staple diet of acacia leaves and, of course, the acacia thorns.
Perhaps the new ‘secret’ for treatments of humans could be found on the wet, slobbery tongue of the giraffe.

Professor Christopher Viney, from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, is investigating the molecular structure of giraffe saliva in his research. He hopes to find a way to link his finding to ways of solving human problems such as  stomach ulcers and the potentially fatal disease cystic fibrosis.

How does this compare to Avocado Oil?

First, and probably most important, you do not need to be slobbered on by a giraffe with their 20 inch tongue!

Avocado oil is easily massaged deeply into the skin, penetrates deeply and is ideal for cuts, abrasions, dry skin, wrinkles, and sun damaged skin.  Avocado oil is renowned for its natural healing and anti-bacterial properties, much like giraffe saliva.  Avocado oil makes an excellent base for salves used in treating lacerations, dermatitis, acne, and similar skin conditions.  Also, avocado oil is ideal to use with post-operative dressings to prevent adhesions to wounds and skin burns while also accelerating the actual healing process.

There's more to avocados than guacamole. Avocado oil is actually patented as a treatment for some forms of dermatitis and arthritis. According to Aubrey Hampton, author of Natural Organic Hair and Skin Care. According to The Green Pharmacy long-term treatment with avocado oil can eliminate eczema by applying it directly to any itchy, red or irritated areas. Healing Properties of Avocado Oil

Originally grown in Central America, avocado fruit was considered to be the "fruit of kings" and was consumed by those belonging to the royal families.
Some of the natural skin care properties of avocado oil for skin conditions and wound healing include

  • A rich source of Vitamin A, E, B1, B2, and D
  • Essential fatty acids, amino acids, lecithin, pantothenic acid and sterols. It is these elements that enable avocado oil to provide benefit when suffering from skin problems like eczema.
  • The texture is thick and waxy which penetrates deep into the skin taking away all the dryness and dullness of the skin.
  • Avocado oil is known for its regenerating and revitalizing properties. It is ideal for dry and mature skins and helps regain the same freshness and nourishment that the skin should have.
  • Avocado oil is also used as therapeutic oil with very high percentage of unsaponifiables. When used with essential oils, it works best in aromatherapy massages.
  • Because of the avocado’s nutritional characteristics and healing properties, avocado oil is highly trusted with treating scaly skin and scalp. When the skin is cut, braised or dry, rough or scaly, avocado oil is the best natural option you can find.

Using avocado oil for your skin as a part of your daily skin care routine will prove immensely beneficial to you. Before you plan to invest on some chemical based formula to heal your eczema, think of the humble avocado and the oil it provides to heal your skin anaturally.
