Lavender Essential Oil - History
Lavender has always been known for its healing powers. It has been used throughout history as a natural antiseptic, an antibiotic, an anti-depressant, a sedative and a detoxifier. Even today, lavender is used for healing and preventing and diminishing unsightly scars from forming.
Lavender essential Oil was first documented by the ancient Greeks and used to treat throat infections, constipation and chest conditions.
The Romans used lavender flower heads in communal baths which created an inspiring environment and stopped the spread of many germs.
During the Middle Ages European herbalists also used lavender water to prevent and treat head lice. Dried lavender has been used to treat insomnia and other sleep disorders.
Lavender was a favourite for strewing on the floor, since it released an aroma when walked upon. Beds were often infested with bed bugs, so lavender was used as an insecticide placed between linen.
Extraction
Lavender oil is extracted from the flowering tops by steam distillation making it one of the simplest oils to extract in its pure form.
Skin Care with Lavender Essential Oil
In skin care lavender oil is used for its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory as well as it aromatic properties. This makes it ideal for shower gels like the Avado Organics Lavender & Ylang Ylang Shower Gel.
In shower gel lavender oil tones and revitalizes skin and is useful for all types of skin problems such as abscesses, acne, oily skin, boils, burns, sunburn, wounds, psoriasis, insect bites and stings.
